Cool

hi,
now you got to go to www.linuxprinting.org, look for a driver for your model, if there is none try use one that they recomend. You can also try to go to Royal home website and search for unix drivers for it . Than you just got to read READMEs and etc. and it will be up and running

ok, after thinking about hat I realized that maybe I should tell you that the printer is attached to the network by its own RH box.

So... is this a printer directly connected to the network, or a printer that is connected to a computer that is connected to the network?

exactly...

i need to connect my computer to the computer that is connected to a printer...

I have the print server's (the computer connected to the printer) hostname and IP. The print server is running CUPS...

I apologize for not being specific... I am trying to tackle a good number of tasks at the moment and didn't give my question enough thought...

edit: to actually leave this post with some worthwhile knowledge for the next guy...

i ran xhost on my local machine:

localhost-- #xhost + "hostname of remote machine using print server"

localhost-- #xhost (to verify)

than I used telnet to connect to the remote host that is using the print server in question and ran printconf-gui(as superuser)

remotehost-- #printconf-gui

this allowed me to model my local machine based on the remote machine so that both could make use of the print server...

thanks for your help.... I'll have to learn how to do this via the command prompt some other day...
