using a card reader on Asus EeePC G2 running linux

I'm certainly a newbie when it comes to Linux so please bear with me. I bought a EeePC g4 surf used with the factory installed software, for taking on trips so I can access email, surf the web, pay bills etc. I would also like to learn linux software and thought this would be a good start. Anyway one of the things I wanted to use this for is to view pictures taken on my Sony digital. I purchased a generic card reader that accepts my Lexar Memory STick Pro Duo but I am unable to view the pictures once the card reader is attached. After I plug in the card reader a screen comes up asking if what program to use to open. I chose Open in Photo Manager. Photo Manager opens but that's where I'm stuck. I can't seem to find the memeory stick. I did a diagnostic and it says the reader is working fine. I just can't seem to find it in Photo Manager. I tried using Open in File Manager but I get the error message The path'/home/user/MS/MS-Pro" does not exist. Would really be great if someone can help this Linux newbi dummy.

I don't know the specifics of that device, can you get a terminal on it?

If so, post the last 10 or so lines from the command dmesg.

I would if I knew what you meant by "terminal" and command dmesg. Sorry for not knowing the terminology - I'm reading the Linux manual but still am pretty lost.
