There is no rhyme or reason for what is happening here!

I have a user name 'rxf000' and for some reason, every few months, this user is unable to log in and in the past I had to delete the username, directory, etc. and add them back in. This time I simply could not get it to work. I removed the user, and added them back in. When the user next logged in, they got prompted for a new password, used the correct password convention, and still couldn't get on. I ended up changing the username, but its apparently a big deal to the user (who is an administrator).

The version of Linux is Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 3).

Any thoughts?

There's an expiredate option in useradd and adduser. It could be something to do with that.
