User Error - Partition SD Card Like a pro....
 

Hello, I think this is yet another epic fail on my path to understanding.

My Partition Magic: (1024 mb = 1 GB)

16384 mb = 16 GB (Original Size)

12124.16 mb = 11.84 GB (Size after Partition)

4259.84 MB Magically disappeared!!!*

*I made a horrible mistake.
I was 'loosely' reading a passage about partitioning SD Cards and a2sd implications one day.
The instructions were to format partition 1 to Fat @ xMB, partition 2 to ext3 (logical) @ yMB. DONE!
x= the larger
y= the smaller (where apps would be installed)

Now, when I boot into CM7 on my LG, SD CARD Information unavailable...space 'unavailable'. Mount is NOT an option. It's grayed out.
In fact, the only way that I can access this space is from Clockwork Mod and from Linux.

Linux still sees the 11.85 GB as storage space if I mount from recovery USB Mass Storage,
but these files can't be accessed from my LG or from another, similar phone.
It's as if the missing (logical) partition is preventing the SD to be mounted within Android.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN....

Why did you partition the card at all? AFAIK Android expects FAT32. EXT4 may be supported if the phone is rooted.
Can't you read the data on your Linux, repartition and write them back? The only reason for a ext3/4 would be if you have files > 4 GB, which are not supported by FAT32

Phone: LG Optimus T (Rooted)
OS: Cyanogenmod 7
Computer: Ubuntu 11.04

The IDEA was to have one partition where apps would be installed by default, then the other for just regular use.

During the initial partitioning of the sd card the logical was still visible from GParted.
After trying the card, acknowledging the FAIL; I put the phone back into Recover/USB Mass Storage and Opened the Card in GPARTED. GParted no longer sees the Logical Drive; only the 11.84 GB Partition that was FAT. The Logical ext3 partition is missing. Not even sure where to start with this. I'm too stubborn to give up and the card still functions in Linux as Storage Space. I can move and remove files from the Fat partition. Just can't see the ext3 partition...at all.



EDIT: Little did I know, Cyanogenmod 7 offers that ability WITHOUT partitioning. My interest is to recover the lost, logical partition. (Actual Card Size: 16 GB / Space Available after Partition: 11.84 GB.
