USB won't Auto Detect for Plug-n-Play Devices

Ubuntu 9.10 on IBM ThinkCenter
USB devices will only connect if plugged in prior to boot. After boot, plugging Memory Stick, Camera, Printer, ... do not connect (lsusb shows no change in connections before/after plugging USB device).
2 USB Hubs: 1 USB 2 echi_hcd; 1 USB 1.0 uchi_hcd - neither auto detect.

udev is running and I've restart(ed) udev with no results.

Is there a Kernel config statement that needs adjusting? Other setting after standard Ubuntu 9.10 install?

/ Needs Help

Have you looked in the BIOS setup? Could hot plugging be turned off?

Cliff,
Actually, I did and there were no BIOS settings related to USB AutoDetection. USB did auto detect when the same computer was running XP Pro & I made not BIOS changes when converting to Ubuntu.
Another twist: Running IOGear GCS1802 KVM / USB Hub connected to USB 2 port. Since it is connected at Boot time, it is recognized. And, any device I attach through its USB Hub ports after boot auto connects - f-spot, gphoto-2, lp,...

Could KVM / USB be interfering with other USB ports?
Thanks for your reply.

Can you remove the GCS1802 and see what happens with devices plugged directly to the USB ports?
