usb support in virtual box

I am running windows xp in virtualbox but have no access to the usb ports. How do I fix this? I am running opensuse 12.2.

When you attach a USB device to the host, you need to pass it to the VM using the "Devices" menu at the top before it will become accessible to the guest.

Select windows xp from the list on the right but do not boot it up.

On the left, scroll down to USB and click on it. On the right side, click the + icon and a drop down list of usb devices will be shown. Select the USB device you want windows to detect and then click the OK button.

Now boot up windows and windows will detect the new hardware. Follow the directions as usual for installing new hardware.

Note: If you're using vitualbox-OSE, usb support is not available
