USB sticks , check bootability of on command line.
Hello,
Is there a way of checking on the command line if a usb stick is bootable? I ask this bacause I recently bought one that will not accept an operating system. lwv962. |
Can you explain how you attempted to install the iso image on your usb stick. Can you explain what you did to come to the conclusion that the stick "will not accept an operating
system.". jdk |

Hi jdkaye
I ran gparted on the stick, created a fat32 partition, gave it a label, put on a boot flag, downloaded a distro, checked md5 sum, burnt a cd, ran md5sum on the cd,put it onto Unetbootin and made some persistence(it WAS ubuntu based). No joy! lwv962. PS. The stick is a SanDisk cruzer blade. I think there is some kind of "windows" protection on it ! |
Hi lwv962,
Any reason why you used a fat32 fs on the partition? That seems strange. jdk |

Hi, I believe that is what Unetbootin demands, anyway I've always used fat32 for a stick. But as I put in my PS.this stick acts differently from other sticks:it is readable and writeable until it comes to installation. I'm just looking for a command line command to let me know in future if I'm given a stick if can take an installation. |
The only way I know of would be to boot it with qemu.
I'd see if you can't get HP's usb tools. They have fixed a few. Sometimes syslinux fixes it. There may be other reasons it can't boot such as size or where /boot is. |
Did you Delete all current partitions before creating new partition and how big of a partition? What do you mean by
