USB Sidewinder in Red Hat 9?

How do I get my USB Sidewinder joy pad working in red hat 9?
I'm trying to use it for xmame!
Will I be doomed to using the keyboard?
Cheers.

Hi.

You might need to recompile your kernel with support for the sidewinder. There's definately support for it in 2.4.23.

On the other hand, I don't know if RH9 supports it out of the box - it might....

Hi, well I would love to recompile the kernel if I knew how but I've not got a clue!
Just thought I could edit some files somewhere or somehow probe the joypad.
My searches from the forum didn't come up with much.
Cheers.
