usb mouse problem
 

Hello,

I have a new Logitech usb wireless optical mouse I am running slackware 9.0 on a:

SMP 2 AMD 2000+
Tyan tiger mpx mobo
512 kingston ddr ecc
geforce 3 rev. 3a
sound blaster live value
3c59* linksys 10/100 E

With a fresh install of slack 9 my mouse works fine, that is with a full install.

But i rebuild the kernel for SMP support, plus due to the fact the bare.i is very basic, and like to take out all the junk. But I must be missing something when rebuilding the kernel cause after I rebuild it, the mouse no longer works.
I am using a fresh from kernel.org 2.4.20 kernel.
Does anyone know exactly what modules I need for the usb devices to work i have on previous attempts selected built in for usb support and usb HID drivers also the one that says this must be selected for the top HID driver to work. As well as Input core support, mouse support, and in character devices, mice i have mouse support selected. I dont know what else to add for usb mouse support? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One more question, could be opinion.
Modules or builtin, which is better? is their a major diffrence other than how much or how often you may need a specific module?

Module alot if you boot from a floppy, module less if you boot from an HD/boot loader on the HD (that's just me, it's all personal preference).
Either way though, be sure you never module your filesystem that your root partition uses.

As for what you missed, maybe support for your usb itself, not just your device. ohci, ehci, uchi, or uhci-usb I think are your choices and it depends on your chipset for which one to use. If it's usb 2.0 it's ehci. Otherwise, check the output from lspci -vvv to see what it says about your chipset.

Thanks masterC, I am not sure as to what I changed tell you truth but it works now with the rebuilt kernel, I think I paid a little more attention, thanks to your info on the usb choices.
