Usb Modem Trouble

Hi,

I am Raghavan from India. I am interested in learning linux.

I use Globespan USB modem (model smc 7003 v2) for my broadband internet.
The problem is Ima unable to connect to internet in Linux. The drivers are available at Eciadsl site. I installed those drivers for the modem and also rp-pppoe. I get the error as time out waiting for PADO packets.
I wish to know whether anyone has used this modem for broadband in linux. If so the configuration for the same. Since I am new to linux I am a bit confused. Also whether dhcpcd should be running for the same and if yes, how to run the same if it is not already running. If anybody can help me, I will be thankful, and I can give further particulars if you need.

Raghavan

Hello

USB modems can be a problem with Linux. I used an Alcatel Speedtouch for a while, but I gave up and bought a Philips modem router. Just connect to the network card in your PC and there you go.

This is what I found with www.google.com/linux:

Before you buy new hardware, check the hardware compatibility list on your distro's website. Lot of things work, some still don't.

Have a lot of fun
