No. as I show in post #5, the modem/fax is recognized (conexant chipset)

Solved the problem:

1. to access the fax/modem, one needs to be in the dialout and fax groups.
so if the username is blah:
Code:
adduser blah dialout fax
no need to install any drivers.

2. efax-gtk by default uses ttyS1 (~/.efaxgtk-rc). this needs to be changed to ttyACM0
