USB hard drive
 

Hello there

i got USB hard drive 80 Gig. the problem is when i connect my usb hard drive to Ubuntu it does not work:( and i have no idea why? Can you help me plzz

How long have you been running ubuntu? do other USB devices work?
Can you give the output of "fdisk -l" and maybe "lspci"?
do you know what filesystem the drive uses? does the hard drive work on any other computers?

what do you mean it doesn't work? Is ubuntu detecting it at all? what version of ubuntu are you running?

I suspect it is an issue where ubuntu recognizes the drive, but doesn't mount it. If you can find out what device number the system is giving the drive (ie hda7 or sda1) then we should be able to figure out a way to mount it. That's where we need to know what happens when you type "fdisk -l" into the command line.

Yes, i got half gig usb and i does work.
I don't know how to do the output of "fdisk"and "lspci"
The error message is (Con not mount volume)Because NTFS is marked to be use.

As for the 'fdisk' & 'lspci'. Yo would be performing the commands from the CLI(Command Line) on a console. You can do a 'man fdisk' & 'man lspci' from the cli to get a better understanding.

BTW, it does sound like your filesystem is in use therefore mounted.

Open a terminal, type "sudo" to get root privileges, then type the commands "fdisk -l" and lspci" Also look at the manual pages with the commands "man fdisk" and "man lspci" to understand what they do.
