usb devices
I haven't installed RedHat yet but I plan to this weekend as a dual boot with Win2K. I know I have to mount extra drives, I plan to mount a FAT32 partition that has my mp3s on it. But how do I get my usb devices to work?
My usb devices that I need to be able to access are: - HP Deskjet 973C - MS Optical Intellimouse - Iomega Zip 100 Will they be mounted at installation or do I need to do something special for them to work? If so, what? I gather that at installation I can tell it I have an usb intellimouse and that will work. Do I use the RH printer configuration to set up the printer? How do I get the zip to work? another off-subject question: Will the install be more likely to detect my Win2K install (to add to the boot menu) if it is on a FAT32 partition rather than on NTFS? I plan to reinstall win2k (it's about that time) and I figured I'd check and do it that way if I have a better chance at detection. Thanks! |
i can't help you with the mouse.
i'm not familiar with your model printer. Generally, for your printer, try http://www.linuxprinting.org/ i've had good luck with usb detection on redhat (my recollection is that my sandisk (digital camera) worked great. my recollection is that the storage devices load as /dev/sda, etc. there are some people working on issues related to zipdrive USB for USB mass storage devices. http://www2.one-eyed-alien.net/~mdharm/linux-usb/ hope this helps. |
