URGENT: Modem Not Detected On Ubuntu Linux!!!

Hi,

I have a problem, I have just installed Ubuntu Linux, but it doesn't detect my modem! How can I fix this problem?? Is it my modem, or is it something else?
Can someone please help me???

Thanks Heaps,

It might help if you let us know what kind of modem you have :)

If it's an internal model, you're going to struggle as most internal PCI modems don't work very well. Typing "lspci" from the console and pasting the output back here will let us know what kind of internal modem you have. There is a site for getting some winmodems which might be worth looking at - http://www.linmodems.org

Or, if you have an external serial modem or cable modem, again, let us know what make + model so we can you up + running. Ubuntu is usually pretty good with those devices so it shouldn't be too hard.

Hi,

Yes, I have 2 internal modems, but Linux doesn't detect it, and yes they are standard modems. Nor Linux or Windows Detect Them!

Thanks

Just one other thing... They are both 56K modems, and work with Dialup only.

If Linux AND Windows doesn't detect them, maybe the modems themselves are faulty...? Either way, as previously mentioned you're trying to configure internal PCI modems which you're going to struggle with. Try checking out the linmodems project site, or alternatively purchase an external serial modem.
