URGENT - I am installing Linux, hangs after checking HW
I have downloaded Linux from Oracle web site, I am trying to Install it on a HP-PC with 1GB RAM and 160GB Hard disk, but it has already Win 2003 install.
When I insert Linux CD 1 and restart the PC it checks HW of the PC and at "PCI : Probing PCI HardWare (bus08)" hangs Indefinitely.
I tried doing recuse and mediacheck but all the time it hangs at same point. I tried running memtest also.
Please help me to resolve it, it is urgent and I am new to Linux.

Hi,
I know HP has some issues with slightly older distributions. Especially the PCI bit. You may want to add
The linux u downloaded can be corrupted one.. Just try another distro then and post the result please, frm windows , linux grub cant be modified but only it can over write with windows MBR .. So that the case buddy , grub can be over written frm windows if at any case grub has been corrupted or damaged while installation or other faults
You can't edit the grub file from Windows. However you can edit the grub line by pressing "E" when grub appears on the screen when you boot (it may be a different key but you'll find it by a little experimenting). Then in Linux you can edit the grub file so it will be permanent.
