Urgent : Automated scripts require to check device file in hpux

Hi all,

I am looking for a shell scripts which check in HP box wheather the device(DDS/DAT) is feasically insert in drive or not and it is working fine. Once it went through all these validation then it will start taking backup file system automatically.

Thanks
Manish

What do you think the benefit of those checks would
be if the script runs unattended at night? Might just
as well run the back-up and read the notification from
cron about the failure in the morning. In either case
you won't be up to change the tapes at the scripts run-
time. And I hope you're NOT planning on running the
back-up during working hours.

Cheers,
Tink

Hi Tink
You are right i am taking backup in the night only. But for few locations i am doing during office hours because of diff time. If that scripts check the device before start backup and if the device is not there i can request somebody on site to load the tape.

Thanks
Manish

But if intervention is required anyway you could as well
just let the plain back-up fail and respond to the notification
by sending someone to check?

Cheers,
Tink
