Morning all, I'm new to Linux, I'm strong in the NTFS world and Active Directory. Here is my problem, I have a external drive produced by Buffalo one of there LinkStation the 1TB unit which operating system is Linux. This unit took a dive yesterday meaning I cant get to my data drive it is in a Raid1 configuration that is reading unformated they said possible caues it was being over worked or natural drive failure. I can see my directories but cant get to the data the tech at Buffalo said if I was to put one of the drives in a Linux machine i should be able to retrieve the data. Here is the issue I don't have a machine with linux he also stated that if i had a XP computer configured to read linux I should be able to get my information off of the drive and load it to another unit this is where I'm lost what program would I need to move this information. Oh yea my backup failed
Please don't use terms like Urgent in your title or post, it's only urgent to you, not to us who are all volunteers here putting in our own time to help out other users with their Linux problems/questions. Your question could be answered in various ways but since you seem to have no knowledge of Linux let me point you to what Google provided in under a second: Access ext2/ext3 file systems from XP.
You could also try booting a LiveCD with Linux to retrieve your data.
System Rescue CD is a good bootable linux ISO that doesnt require installation on a computer. You could pop the drives into the computer and boot up with it,.. probably get your stuff off that drive.
the best thing is to search for " ext3 reader for xp " it is a small software that can be installed in XP and used for reading ext3 file systems like your hard drive .
The software is easily available in google in the WWW.
As pointed out by Jefro, would you please share what got your problem solved? By doing so you help others in similar situations. Thanks in advance. Please mark your thread as solved if your problem is solved.
