this is not urgent for us, and demanding urgent attention just comes across as rude to others. thanks.

First, avoid making topic titles which demand results but give no info as to the actual problem. Not only do they tend to annoy users, but the don't give your problem the attention it needs to get solved.

As for your issue, could you be more specific? Do you get an error message? Are other applications able to get online?

At the moment, we can't tell if you have no internet connection, or just a dead Firefox!

If you have no internet, you need to tell us how you connect to the internet: broadband or dial-up; telephone line, cable, or broadcast; wired router, wireless router, or modem. If you run the program listed as Network in the System Administration menu, does it list a device, and is that device marked as active? Giving the output of the command ifconfig will also be helpful.

-----------------------------
Well, our posts have crossed! Glad to hear all is well.

Didn't you see the note(?):
Quote:
Bad: "Help Me!!" or "URGENT"
Good: "Why is my mouse pointer wrong?"
Best: "Mouse pointer distorted on XFree86 4.3 with Geforce FX 5200"
Anyway, try to connect you PC to Internet with any kind of router with DHCP.

Better, why don't you contact Oracle?? Since you have to pay for Oracle, you also pay for support...they can be 'urgent' support for Oracle 24/7.

you are running cent and Gnome AS ROOT ? -- big no-no , and very large security risk.

it is NOT advised to do so
That is WHY the Cent 5.6( guessing on that 5.6 is current) installer had you make a USER account

use the user account and elevate the terminal( to root) AS NEEDED with the "su - " command.

also Firefox and Linux are NOT MS Windows and dose NOT ACT LIKE MS WINDOWS
things ARE NOT saved to the desktop !

but the DEFAULT ~/Downloads folder

Then CONTACT ORACLE. You're paying for support when you buy Oracle...if you need **URGENT** help with Oracle, then call them. And did you try to read the documentation, where the installation procedure is written out in detail, along with examples????

for oracle install, create a user 'oracle' and download the files to folder under /home/oracle

Create User and Groups
/usr/sbin/groupadd dba
/usr/sbin/groupadd oinstall
/usr/sbin/useradd -m oracle -g oinstall -G dba -s /bin/bash

passwd oracle

Create directories (use /opt or /u01)
mkdir -p /opt/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
chown -R oracle : oinstall /opt
(no spaces around the colon)
chmod -R 775 /opt
