uploading bar code font to HP Laser Printer

We have to print bar codes onto labels, sheets of 21, 14 and 2 so a Zebra printer is out of the question, but the printer we are using (HP M401DN) doesn't hold the soft fonts for more than one job which means if I send the font to the printer and someone else prints something out the font is 'lost'. The only way I can see around this is to use the Linux server to send the font to the printer then do the job immediately after. The problem is, sending the font from Linux. Unix allowed the lpr command to upload fonts by using the -O option (binary) but this is not supported under Linux. Any ideas what command/options I can use?

Have you looked at the barcode printing software available, rather than uploading a font? e.g. http://www.adams1.com/unix.html

I'm out of my depth here, but isn't the lpr parameter -1 the one you need?

Tried that already, thanks David. The lpr commands I have tried are:-
lpr -Hipaddress -Sipaddress -Ol filename
lpr -Hipaddress -Sipaddress -ol filename

But all they do is either give an error message or try to print the file out as a print job. I'm beginning to think that this is not possible from Linux.

Uploading Bar Code Font to HP Laser Printer

"Hey, have you solved this issue? I'm having alike problem too. If you have got some solution of it, would you please share it? Thanks very much"

Yes, we solved it by creating the bar codes from a program so that we can print bar codes to any printer.

HP were as useful as a chocolate teapot. We were looking at getting font cards to put in our printers but they are from the USA and our printers are the European model. I asked HP if they were compatible but all they could tell me was that a new interface was needed but couldn't tell me if that would definitely solve the issue.
