Upgrading to KDE 3.3
Hi, i am running SuSE 9.1 Professional and i want to upgrade to KDE 3.3, since there are soo many options to download, binary, packages, source code, i get lost in what to do..
What do i get exactly for upgrading, rather than installing fresh |
ok, i get to the
ftp://mirrors.midco.net/pub/kde/stab...SuSE/ix86/9.1/ and all i see is a bunch of rpms... do i install each and every one? is there a fast way to isntall them? |
rpm -Uvh *.rpm
|
so im guessing i download each and everyone correct?
|
how would i downlaod them all quickly, i hate clicking on individual links :(
|
hmm when i type that rpm command in i get
user379:/home/mark/downloads/KDE # rpm -Uvh *.rpm error: Failed dependencies: glib2-devel is needed by arts-devel-1.3.1-3 libruby.so.1.8 is needed by kdebindings3-ruby-3.3.1-3 povray is needed by kdegraphics3-3D-3.3.1-3 ocrad is needed by kdegraphics3-scan-3.3.1-3 tetex is needed by kdegraphics3-tex-3.3.1-3 cvs is needed by kdesdk3-3.3.1-3 valgrind >= 1.9.6 is needed by kdesdk3-profile-3.3.1-3 cvs is needed by kdevelop3-3.1.1-3 graphviz is needed by kdevelop3-3.1.1-3 doxygen is needed by kdevelop3-3.1.1-3 docbook-toys is needed by kdevelop3-3.1.1-3 html-dtd is needed by kdevelop3-3.1.1-3 tidy is needed by kdewebdev3-3.3.0-7 user379:/home/mark/downloads/KDE # |

cvs is needed by kdesdk3-3.3.1-3 and some of the packages(like 2 or 3) were *.noarch* is that fine even if i use suse? |
Hello
I was browsing the suse download section, they have KDE 3.3 packages avaliable to download for 9.1 now. There are still quite a bit of packages to download but it is more organized than the link you posted. Perhaps it will help. http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/private/dow...uks/index.html good luck :) |
hmm,, ok heres my new problem, when i try and install them look what i get
ark@user379:~/downloads/KDE> ls arts-gmcop.rpm kdebase3-kdm.rpm kdebase3-samba.rpm qt3.rpm arts.rpm kdebase3-ksysguardd.rpm kdelibs3-doc.rpm taglib.rpm kde3-i18n-en_GB.rpm kdebase3-nsplugin.rpm kdelibs3.rpm kdebase3-extra.rpm kdebase3.rpm libart_lgpl.rpm mark@user379:~/downloads/KDE> rpm -Uvh *.rpm error: Failed dependencies: arts = 1.2.1 is needed by (installed) arts-devel-1.2.1-35.4 kdelibs3 = 3.2.1 is needed by (installed) kdelibs3-devel-3.2.1-44.28 qt3 = 3.3.1 is needed by (installed) qt3-devel-3.3.1-33 mark@user379:~/downloads/KDE> also when i try to install them one at a time i get like 50 conflicts :( i tried installing through my user and root |
Have you tried just installing the rpms through YAST instead of konsole? I installed KDE 3.3 through yast the other day and had no problems other than for some dependencies which i found through this linuxforum thread - http://www.groupsrv.com/linux/viewtopic.php?p=89984. You might run into these as well:
ftp://ftp.univie.ac.at/systems/linux....7-28.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.univie.ac.at/systems/linux....0-71.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.univie.ac.at/systems/linux...0-1.5.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.univie.ac.at/systems/linux...-38.4.i586.rpm |
ya i tried but if iwant to do it one at a time it gives me errors such as i have to uninstall most of my kde programs..
is that normal? |
Does the error say something like
needs libjack.so.0 resolve confict by .... uninstall prog .... something like that right? It just means you have to install say 'libjack.so.0' first. The errors will eventually go away once you have installed the other rpms needed first. I had the same problem. Obviously don't uninstall the progs to resolve the conflicts. Just note the needed dependency and cancel out and install those first. Install the base packages but save the kdelibs3 and kdebase3 for last. For the dependencies errors you might run into like libsndfile, libjack, libjasper, libaspell, just follow the links I posted previously. The install will work. Good luck. |
