Upgrading to fedora core 2

Hi,
I wanna know whether there are enough reasons for me to upgrade to fedora core 2.I use the core 1.It took me a long time to download the iso images of the distro.I really don't want to do it again.I tried using a distro distributed with the chip magazine, but it didn't work.
So is there a compelling reason to upgrade to core 2.Will I be missing something huge? Please advise.

The main reason I upgraded from FC1 to FC2 was because FC2 has a 2.6.x version of the kernel (the heart of the Linux system) whereas FC1 uses 2.4.x.

There are some notable improvements because of this but I would not say that these are overwhelmingly compelling at this stage - and indeed I have read that there are some nasty disk geometry problems if you do a fresh install as opposed to an upgrade.

I myself had some not insignificant difficulties in that the driver for my USB wireless network device no longer worked under FC2 and I had to wait for a patch to be released before it would work properly. That was however a problem pretty much specific to me and a few others...

If I were you I would not rush to upgrade, but that said, I think you should try to keep up with the new releases over time as developments are moving at quite a pace and things (generally) improve with each new release.

You might find other cover disk versions of FC2 (3,4... whatever as they get released) that work - or perhaps you can download the ISOs at work/school/college if you have faster net access there...

All the best

Mark

I want to stress that the above comments were just my opinion. If you take a stroll over here you'll find a complete debate raging over just this subject.

Personally, I upgraded from FC1 to FC2 a couple of months back and I'm very happy with it.

All the best

Mark
