upgrading problem with yum

After some messing around with yum, breaking it excluding package installation at upgrade and reintalling the older version again i'd like to give upgrading my system another shot.

when upgrading i see that yum wants to upgrade itself and i know that upgrading yum requires python-elementtree but i can't find the python-abi 2.3 that elementtree requires, please help.

[root@fedora DOWNLOADS]# yum update
Setting up Update Process
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Resolving Dependencies
...
...
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: python-abi = 2.3 for package: python-elementtree
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: python-abi = 2.3 is needed by package python-elementtree

[root@fedora DOWNLOADS]# yum list|grep python-element
python-elementtree.i386 1.2.6-4_9.rhfc4.at installed
python-elementtree.i386 1.2.6-5.2.el4.rf dries
python-elementtree-debuginfo.i386 1.2.6-5.2.el4.rf dries

[root@fedora DOWNLOADS]# rpm -e python-elementtree.i386
error: Failed dependencies:
python-elementtree is needed by (installed) yum-2.4.1-64.rhfc4.at.i386

Thank you.

i would uninstall/reinstall python since python-abi is part of the main package

rpm -e --nodeps python

then

yum install python

This might be one of the compatibility problems with ATrpms; all the packages you say you have installed come from ATrpms (the "at" tag).
