What distribution are you using ?

There are some easy ways to installing a kernel and some difficult ones (customizing). It all depends on how far you want to go.

Cheers,

Did you read the instructions that came with the kernel?

_Very_carefully_ Seriously, there are a number of dependencies you have to watch out for. If you have the full kernel source, have a look at the /Documentation/Changes file. There is a list of packages and version tests to check that your system is ready for 2.6.x . Most important is the upgrade of modutils to module-init-utils.

I read the the documentation that came with the download. It's difficult to understand everything that's been written.I'm using the 2.6.7 patch.I heard that it doesn't compile well with core 1. 2.6.6 is much better.Should I use the 2.6.6 patch?

There are several ways of doing this...

One is to install apt-get on to your Fedora-Core, and then go and get the pre-built kernel from one of the apt sites.

Two is to RTFM as it tells you the steps in creating the kernel. ;P

Cheers.

BTW, you should be using the full 2.6.7 kernel and not the patch, as the patch version is to be used to patch your full version.

Cheers.

Question mandrake 10.0?

How do i upgrade mdk 10? it is running the old kernel and i have 2.6 on the CD as an rpm. when i run it it seems to work yet it still uses the old kernel! any ideas? iam new to this linux stuff althoguht i have been using PCs for years i am bored with M$ ripping us off with shoddy S/W, so don't be to teknikle! (p.s. mdk seem to have removed the 10 docs, so don't tell me to look there!)
i also installed the sorce as my modem thingy needs it to work, only prob is that there is no sorce files for 2.4 on the CD!!
Just to remind you:
Thanks in advance!
