Upgrading from 6.06 to 7.04 won't detect modem

I had 6.06 installed and using Kubuntu with no problems connecting via dial-up and Best Data external modem. I received the 7.04 CD from Linux in the mail and installed it. Now when I login to 7.04, and try to set up a connection to my isp like I did with 6.06, it doesn't seem to work. I can set up the network connection, the phone number of the isp access, my username, etc., but when I go to the Modem Connection and try to "Activate" the connection, the "Activate" and "Deactivate" choices aren't lit up for me to highlight and make the choice. I can restart and use my 6.06 but would like to use 7.04. Here is my info:

Is the modem USB? I have a usb Best Data modem that works with the slmodem driver. It could be that 6.06 came with it and 7.04 did not, or the modules were installed into the kernel that 6.06 loaded but 7.04 uses a newer kernel which would require the driver to be reinstalled.

Update 6/06 to 7.04 Modem

Thanks for the note. No, it isn't USB. I do have the CD with the drivers for the modem and have tried to install, but not sure how to with Linux, still a little fuzzy on how to do things.
