Upgraded to Meerkat and lost wireless on Toshiba Pro Satellite A10 Laptop
 

Hi folks,

I am definitely a Linux newbie, and want to learn.

I've been using and enjoying Ubuntu for about 2 years with no real problems - until I upgraded to 10.10 about 4 months ago. I lost my wireless connection, which up to then had been working fine. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 with 1gig of RAM. The wi-fi card is a Toshiba PA3171U-1MPC which uses an Agere chipset. My modem router is a Netgear DG834G v5. There are other (Windows) laptops connected ok through this router. Browser is Firefox 3.6.16

Why would an earlier version of Ubuntu work fine - with the upgrade then failing to work? I've spent an awful lot of time going round in circles with this and I bet it's something simple..

1) Are you up to date with all software?
2) This seems to happen to Ubuntu users on upgrade, not just your version - previous versions solutions could be yours as well. It may be due to misconfiguration, rather than the new versions drivers being "broken".
3) If you're not using ndiswrapper, I would purge it to avoid confusion.
4) Some laptops have an issue with bluetooth & wifi apparently. Try ensuring bluetooth is off (if you have it)
5) Could be worth posting to the Ubuntu forums (& certainly searching them)
