Upgraded to Meerkat and lost wireless on Toshiba Pro Satellite A10 Laptop
Hi folks,
I am definitely a Linux newbie, and want to learn. I've been using and enjoying Ubuntu for about 2 years with no real problems - until I upgraded to 10.10 about 4 months ago. I lost my wireless connection, which up to then had been working fine. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 with 1gig of RAM. The wi-fi card is a Toshiba PA3171U-1MPC which uses an Agere chipset. [URL="http://www.wireless-driver.com/toshiba-pa3171u-1mpc-wireless-mini-pci-windows-drivers"] I have tried installing the .inf file for this card with NdisWrapper, but the card is not recognised. http://www.wireless-driver.com/toshiba-pa3171u-1mpc-wireless-mini-pci-windows-drivers My modem router is a Netgear DG834G v5. There are other (Windows) laptops connected ok through this router. Browser is Firefox 3.6.16 Why would an earlier version of Ubuntu work fine - with the upgrade then failing to work? I've spent an awful lot of time going round in circles with this and I bet it's something simple.. Thanks in anticipation, G ps FYI graham@graham-laptop:~$ iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. eth1 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.457 GHz Access Point: None Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Sensitivity:1/0 Retry limit:8 RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr:off Power Management:off Link Quality=0/70 Signal level=-122 dBm Noise level=-122 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:14 Tx excessive retries:12 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 graham@graham-laptop:~$ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller (rev 01) 00:00.1 System peripheral: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller (rev 01) 00:00.3 System peripheral: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller (rev 01) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-M) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev 83) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801DBM (ICH4-M) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 03) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801DBM (ICH4-M) IDE Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03) 01:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB PRO/100 VE (MOB) Ethernet Controller (rev 83) 01:0a.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1410 PC card Cardbus Controller (rev 01) 01:0b.0 CardBus bridge: Toshiba America Info Systems ToPIC100 PCI to Cardbus Bridge with ZV Support (rev 33) graham@graham-laptop:~$ |
1) Are you up to date with all software?
2) This seems to happen to Ubuntu users on upgrade, not just your version - previous versions solutions could be yours as well. It may be due to misconfiguration, rather than the new versions drivers being "broken". 3) If you're not using ndiswrapper, I would purge it to avoid confusion. 4) Some laptops have an issue with bluetooth & wifi apparently. Try ensuring bluetooth is off (if you have it) 5) Could be worth posting to the Ubuntu forums (& certainly searching them) Good luck PS Which is your card in your pci list? - I can't see it (I could be being stupid) |
