Updating Ubuntu - Getting a choice of messages 1-7 WHAT ONE DO I CHOOSE?
I am a new user of Ubuntu.
When updating Ubuntu from the update manager, I get a message saying my boot has been customized, on the black dos page as it is updating.
I get a choice of 7 options, numbered 1 - 7
1. Install package Maintenance version
2. Keep local Version Currently installed.
3. Show the difference between the versions
4. Show a side by side difference between available versions.
5. Show a 3 way difference between available versions.
6. Do a 3 way merge between available versions (experimental)
7. Start a new shell to examine the situation.
What would you like to do about menu 1st?
I chose Number 2. Keep local Version Currently installed.
Is this the correct thing to do please?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Accept the default. I believe that would indeed be number 2.

Be aware that you will not have the option to boot any new kernel that was downloaded.
What did you change in the menu.lst that you need to retain ?.

Thank you for your reply, and suggestions.
I really don't know what I changed. I have a lot of different software on the machine, not only Ubuntu.
I also have two hard drives, the second which was installed at a later date from the original setup of Ubuntu.
I think I will need to speak to the technician who built the machine, with me, and see what she can tell me, as I am very new at Ubuntu, and don't understand a lot about it YET!
I have KDE software on the machine as well as Wine, also third party software.
Maybe it is referring to these programs,
