Updating Ubuntu 8.10

Hi all .. am Using Ubuntu 8.10 every time I update the OS the older versions still appear in the Grub boot loader .. is their is a way to hide those extra lines in the GRUB?? Thanks.

As soon as you're sure that the new kernel works, just uninstall the old ones. Start Synaptic, search for "linux-image" and remove (completely) all kernels you don't want/need. Just be careful and don't try to remove the kernel you're actually running.

If you wanna hide a line in grub you can usually just go to the configuration file for grub (/boot/grub/grub.conf) and put a # before the line in order to hide it.

Or just remove it from there;)
Be carefull though not to remove any other of the required lines.

While searching through synaptic I went across a tool called startup manager. It does all the grub configurations for you. You can install it from synaptic. Though I hardly use it, but still find it useful and keep it just in case I feel lazy to edit files directly.
