Updating The Kernel
 

I just have a general question... I have red hat 8.0 and they consistently offer updates to the kernel. I always update as soon as possible. However, when updating, do I encounter risks that software i've previously installed will no longer work? I'm asking because the agpgart module is no longer working with my ati 9700 card. Any response would be appreciated. THanks...

Software in general, not. But drivers, yes. Drivers are part of kernel, so when you change the kernel, you also change you drivers. As far as I know ATI drivers don't come with kernel (or maybe they do?). If you installed them yourself, you need to install them again after you upgrade your kernel.

Depends on what kind of drivers you're after Mara :)
There are several ATI framebuffer drivers in the kernel,
(just grep " ATI " /usr/src/linux/drivers/video/*)
drivers for X however come with XFree86.
