Updates

When I get a notification of up dates, in this case 105 updates. I click on the red star, an update window opens, and freezes. To close that window, I have to log on as super user. Something is amiss somewhere?????

Hi there,

Welcome to LQ!!!

You didnt mention which OS you are running on. Let us know the OS.

When you say that you click on the red icon it freezes then how you login as superuser? To install updates you need to be super user. Once you logged in as super user did it prompt you for installing updates or do nothing. Explain the situation in detail please.

I use Squeeze and often click the red thing - I get it for the section on the Coldstream Guards. :) Can't remember exactly what happens but it's something like click 'update' then an enter root password box appears; enter root's password and it updates. Or it may put up the 'enter root password' box first, can't recall. In short it is very easy to get mixed up with these things. So that's one possibility.

Thanks for the welcome....this problem is in debian...but I have it solved. It was because there was something running in the background, which conflicted with apt....was able to kill it.

Thanks for the comeback

I am using Squeeze....and no longer will click on the red thing..when it pops up, I am going to go to the synaptic package manager and update from there. I was on line with a man from Spain for a few hours last night.

Thanks for taking the time to respond
