Updated nVidia drivers and lost sound and network

I installed the latest nvidia drivers for my TNT2, and now I can't get into secure mode. do anything audio related, or access anything from the network card. They were working before I did the installation...
This is what I did...

su
<entered password>
init 3
cd <to directory>
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86...run
restarted <<mistake

At this point it wouldn't do anything but boot in console. So I went and edited XConfig with vim. Fixed the problems there according to one of the guides here. This still didn't fix the problem. I then went and reinstalled the drivers again, and that's what fixed it. Both devices show up in the mandrake control center and harddrake. The nic is configured correctly but simply doesn't do anything, same deal with the sound card. Distribution is Mandrake 10.0 Thanks in advance!

Your probably not loading the drivers which is governed by /etc/modprobe.conf if your using the 2.6 kernel or by /etc/modules.conf if your running the 2.4 kernel. Post the appropriate file for your setup. The nvidia installer writes to modprobe.conf adding the line "alias /dev/nvidia* nvidia". Mcc is kind of buggy and I've found that anytime you do an operation in mcc that will write to modprobe.conf, mcc will rewrite it and drop the line for the nvidia driver.
