is that simple enough?

If you are an Agent user you can run Agent under Wine.

The Opera browser's built-in news reader works great for text news groups.

Otherwise, pan.

Thunderbird and Sylpheed both include news reader capability, but I've never tested them.

...can you help?need a/the source file for saving pan.?

If you are asking about how to install pan - it depends on the "distro" or brand of Linux you are using. Ubuntu, Fedora, what?

pan is available in the software repositories for many distros. I would first do a little research into how to install software on your Linux distro if you are not familiar with the process. Do a search on "how to install software Ubuntu" or whatever distro you use. There is a lot of good documentation on the web. Then it is simply a matter of doing a search within you software tool for pan.

After trying that please let us know how it worked. If you have specific questions please post what distro of Linux you are using and any problems you had installing pan. Specific questions are a lot more likely to get an answer.

The icon on your first post indicates Ubuntu. Look in the Ubuntu Software Center or in Synaptic. It should be there and available for installation.

Why not just use Thunderbird?

"VLC media player-Read,capture,broadcast your multimedia streams"...will this work as a reader for Usenet image files?(that was 3 months ago,can we deal with this "slow response problem"first?).....THANK YOU!,WAYNE,Sincerely, philip richey

Phil,

It appears to me that your original question was answered within a couple of hours of being posted. VLC player was not mentioned in your original post nor in any of the responses. There has been no "slow response problem" and I would suggest that you not berate the users of this forum if you wish to be helped.

As to your latest question... VLC media player is NOT a Usenet reader. If you download a video or audio file from Usenet you can in fact play it with VLC.

How familiar are you with Usenet? Have you accessed Usenet using Windows? If so, what software did you use on Windows? Do you have a Usenet provider? What are you hoping to accomplish by accessing Usenet? Text for discussions (the original purpose of Usenet) or for binaries (probably the most common use these days)?

The folks on this forum can help you but we cannot read your mind.

DEAR WAYNE,i was refering to the "slow response problem"of my computer.sorry,i didn't write that correctly.i decided usenet wasn't necessary after finding plenty of pictures,.."stock-photo" type of sites, therefore no longer need a reader for these sites.anyway, the problem now is that my computer(ubuntu)is slow, sometimes unresponsive.will you help me please!THANK YOU WAYNE!

The custom at LQ is to create a new thread for a new problem, primarily to help new users who might come hear searching for help by keeping each thread focused on a single issue.

To deal with the "slow response" issue, information about the symptoms and about your computer's make, model, and specs, as well as which version of Ubuntu is installed and whether updates have been installed regularly, would help.

The output of the "top" command in a terminal will tell you what programs are using the most memory.

Like Frankbell said, it would be better to start a new thread for that. And when you do, be sure to post on that thread what is going on with your system. Just like when you go to the doctor, you have to tell him what's wrong. When the doctor asks "what's wrong", you don't say "I don't know, you're the doctor, you tell me". :)

The more info you can provide the better we can help you.
