Question Up2date register error


Im using redhat 9.0.. i tried to register my machine in rhn using the command "up2date --register" and ended up with this error message..

"Fatal error retrieving privacy statement:
Connection refused"

i installed the latest up2date rpm from redhat site. can anyone pl help me?

i dont know, but a search on yahoo gave one result, from the rh site.. dunno if this will help, but theres 3 follow up replys to someones post having the same problem, i didnt really check them out, but maybe an answer is there.

here

edit: turns out the 3 replys were useless more or less.. problem didnt get solved it looks like

go to google and search for "Fatal error retrieving privacy statement: Connection refused" there should be a couple results, looks like there is afew [possible] solutions on the few results.

it doesnt work

i too saw those solutions. but it doesnt work, some post says that it may be a bug in redhat.. i donno abt this.. can u pl suggest anyother way to overcome this?

you saw the post regarding maybe the host is down? or proxy settings maybe incorrect? or some firewall settings?

sorry i have no clue, dont use redhat, cant be of any more assistance.
maybe someone else can guide you

You maybe experiencing such problems because Redhat 9 is now a discontinued product and Redhat does not offer support or upgrades for it anymore. It reached its end of life a while ago and on this page, Redhat has information on how to migrate to Fedora or Redhat Enterprise Linux.

i saw the link u gave.. is fedora available for free? is it possible to install it without changing the filesystem? or else can i upgrade my redhat to fedora without further partitions.. can u give me more details abt how to do that.. im not good in these areas..
