Unmount vs Hide
 

Hi,

I am trying to do a multiboot, just for fun

Now I installed Foresight Linux, which was not such a good idea.

Foresight is based on rpath and uses Conary as update system

Now Conary destroyed all other linux systems installed on the other partitions.

Now I found that there is something such as hide and unmount but have read several pages full of it but still have no idea what is the difference between the two and more important, how to use this as most explanations seem to complicated

How can I hide partitions for a booted linux operating system so it is unable to see it, use it or even mount it when it tries

The short answer is you can't - especially from an installer.

Hide and unhide are grub options to mark the hidden bit so that DOS and Windows ignore them. Only DOS and Windows use these bits. Umount is used to unmount a mounted filesystem.

IMHO, if you multiboot, it is best to manually perform the partitioning in the install program. Most installers refer to this as an "advanced" option during the partitioning stage. It can be easy to select the wrong option. The installer however should tell you how the partitioning and formatting will be carried out and allow you to back out to a previous step if you don't want to use its suggestions. You need to be familiar with the drives you have and how things are partitioned to prevent mistakes.
