Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Somehow Mandrake 10.1 CE picked up my ESS Superlink winmodem, and set it as the default modem for the internet setup. of course winmodems cannot be used under linux, so when I run the installation setup it will not let me.
That was the main reason why I bought my 3com Megahertz 56K pcmcia modem. I had used it in Fedora Core 1 with no problem, and it works with windows XP very well. It is a hardware modem, so there is no software drivers needed to run this modem. Technically it should work on every OS.
The only problem is when I go to the system configuration center, The only modem it recognizes is my ESS....(which I cannot use), and the software will not give me an option to remove that modem. I cannot remove it from my computer because its hardwired in. I figure if I can remove the ESS modem from the hardware list, maybe it will give a chance for the pcmcia modem to be recognized as the only modem so I can choose it from the list of modems in the internet wizard.
does anybody know how I can get my 3com modem recognized in Mandrake so I can configure the internet?
