Hi,

you'll need to tell us what method you used to install ns2 for there to be any chance that anyone can tell you how to uninstall it.

Welcome to LQ.

You can have as many times ns-allinone-2.xx as you want,
installed at the same time.
But : Do not add any *PATH text to .bashrc : Never required.

How to remove : Delete the the ns2 related text in ~.bashrc,
and don't add anything the next time.
How to delete ns235 : $ rm -r ns-allinone-2.35/
** The ./install command doesn't install anything outside ns-allinone-2.35.
'install' is just a build script.

HOWTO build ns-allinone-2.35 in the 32bits (i686) Ubuntu 12.04 :
1) sudo apt-get install g++-4.4
2) cd ns-allinone-2.35/ && export CC=gcc-4.4 CXX=g++-4.4 && ./install

HOWTO install : cd ns-2.35/ && sudo make install

** About errors : You will get more errors at validation,
if your OS is 64bits = x86_64.

Hi, Thankyou for the instant replies.

It is a i386.

Steps i used to install:
1.sudo apt-get update
2.sudo apt-get install build-essential autoconf automake libxmu-dev
3.tar zxvf ns-allinone-2.35.tar.gz
4.cd ns-allinone-2.35
5../install
Edited the files according to the commands. (As you pointed out, i did a mistake here.)
6../validate

I executed : sudo rm -r ns-allinone-2.35/
and edited the .bashrc file.
As far i can tell, i think this did remove ns2_2.35.

Thankyou

I have a doubt regarding the install and build method please, i am not sure about the difference between 'build' and 'install' but from what i got from google is that 'build' is installing all the repositories along with the main package.
So do i need to run the commands you mentioned in HowToBuild in case i have already ran: sudo apt-get update ?

"How to build" has nothing to do with "sudo apt-get update". Absolutely nothing.

About your build method : May work or may not work.
* Do not believe everything you read at the Internet :
Very few ns2 "tutorials" / "blogs" are written by experienced people.
Mostly first time users of Linux / ns2.

Hi,

ns2 is packaged for Ubuntu 12.04 [1]. Installing it should be as simple as "sudo apt-get install ns2". Why are you trying to install it from source?

Thanks a lot for the links. I installed ns2 successfully.
I am actually working on a project wherein i require to simulate VANET environment. Hence i need to install ns2, SUMO and MOVE.
Are SUMO and MOVE also packaged for ubuntu_12.04?

No <latest> sumo for 12.04 http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?ke...searchon=names
Older packages http://sumo-sim.org/wiki/Downloads
And http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/tags/sumo/

MOVE is one file, MOVE.jar, that you simply run with $ java -jar MOVE.jar
.. or $ java -Xmx512m -jar MOVE.jar
I.e. no install for "MOVE" https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7S...it?usp=sharing

Thankyou for the links and as i read from the forums regarding SUMO installation:
$ sudo apt-get install \
g++-4.4 libproj-dev libgdal-dev libxerces-c2-dev libfox-1.6-dev
$ cd sumo-0.12.3/ && export CC=gcc-4.4 CXX=g++-4.4 && ./configure && make
$ sudo make install

While all the rest went smooth, but the third command i.e. "$ cd sumo-0.12.3/ && export CC=gcc-4.4 CXX=g++-4.4 && ./configure && make" is giving error as follows:
saumya@ubuntu:~$ cd sumo-0.12.3/ && export CC=gcc-4.4 CXX=g++-4.4 && ./configure && make
./configure: 88: ./configure: cannot create conf3564.sh: Permission denied
./configure: 89: ./configure: cannot create conf3564.sh: Permission denied
chmod: cannot access `conf3564.sh': No such file or directory
./configure: line 88: conf3564.sh: Permission denied
./configure: line 89: conf3564.sh: Permission denied
chmod: cannot access `conf3564.sh': No such file or directory
./configure: line 201: conf3564.file: Permission denied
./configure: line 1224: config.log: Permission denied

I checked all the sumo related forums but could not find anything similar there and hence am asking here.

""Permission denied"" : Either you are using a corrupt "sumo-src-0.12.3.tar.gz",
or you corrupted it yourself by unpacking with $ sudo tar xvf sumo-src-0.12.3.tar.gz

* No sudo for any commands, except 'make install' !
* A valid package http://sourceforge.net/projects/sumo...ar.gz/download

But without usung the 'tar' command, how should i unpack the tar file since the command 'cd sumo-0.12.3' will not work otherwise.

EDIT:
The problem got solved. Thanks a lot for your help. I successfully installed both ns2 and sumo.
