Question Uninstalling a partially installed package

Yesterday I incorrectly tried to install a Brother printer driver onto an Ubuntu 7.10 server and the package never finished installing.

I tried both sudo dpkg -r hl1440lpr and sudo apt-get remove hl144lpr without any luck. I received the following error messages.

1 not fully installed or removed
/var/lib/dpkg/info/hl1440lpr.postrm: 3: /etc/init.d/lpd: not found
subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 127

sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1).

I even tried synaptic from the desktop. I found the package, but the remove command was inactive for that package.

Is there a way that I can remove this before I try re-installing the printer drivers?

Thanks,
