Uninstall Ubuntu
I install Ubuntu on VIAO computer so that there is no other operating system. I need to uninstall it, reinstall Vista, and then install Ubuntu on a partition. I have no idea on how to uninstall Ubuntu. VIAO did not provide original diskettes. I only copied from VIAO the 4 recovery diskettes and 2 recovery diskettes for VISTA. When I start VIAO from the 1st VISTA recovery diskette, It looks like MS operating system is starting, but it does not ask for the 2nd VISTA recovery diskette, and I get nowhere.

Hi there,
it looks like you're very unexperienced - that makes it difficult now. Does your computer have a recovery partition? - Probably did when you bought it, but: Did you wipe it clean when you installed Ubuntu? Did you allow the Ubuntu setup to create a new partition scheme on the hard disk? Quote:
If not, you're out of luck and have no chance to restore your Windows - other than getting an installation DVD somewhere. Quote:
Apart from that: Do you insist on Vista? In my opinion, that's something for masochists. You might consider upgrading to Windows 7. That's still a pain in the ass compared to XP or Ubuntu, but a major improvement to Vista. [X] Doc CPU |
Thank you for helpful advices.
I much appreciate the quick help. I just ordered a recovery diskette from SONY. Once I get it, I would be able to restore VISTA by booting the VIAO from this diskette. Thank you again, and best wishes for 2012.

Be aware that the same thing may happen with the new disks. Hopefully not, but if so post back here.
Can you still boot the machine - either the installed Ubuntu, or maybe the Ubuntu install disk/USB/whatever ? |

I wanted to point out that once you've successfully installed vista, you will need to create some free space on the hard disk to use for your Ubuntu partition.
You need to do this before you do anything with the ubuntu installation, otherwise you'll end up back where you started. Check out this link for more info. Just remember. Create the free space FIRST. I made this mistake once ;) Good Luck! ---------- Post added 12-26-11 at 10:02 PM ---------- I wanted to point out that once you've successfully installed vista, you will need to create some free space on the hard disk to use for your Ubuntu partition.
