Well, I haven't touched FC2 but it should run redhat commands anyways (I don't see why not). If you get the newest package of GAIM, you can update it like so: rpm -Uvh <whatever.rpm>. However, this is what I would do:
1. remove the old GAIM you have. rpm -e <package>
2. Then install the new one. rpm -i <package>
