I dual boot win2k and red hat 7 on two different drives. I need to use the linux drive for something else, so im gonna put win2k and linux on the same drive. if i partition the win2k drive and install linux will it simply over right the lilo changes to the mbr from before or do i need to uninstall lilo and then partition and install?

Well here is how it is, If you install Win2K first, then Linux, you have the option of installing LILO to the MBR or if you would want to boot from a floppy.
If you install Linux first with LILO to the MBR, then install Win2K, Win2K will overwrite the MBR and LILO won't exist anymore on the MBR.

Hope that helps.

sorry, i dont think i worded my original question correctly, let me try again.

I have a drive with win2k on it and lilo in the mbr.(but linux isnt on the drive yet) I am going to install linux on the drive also.

Can I go ahead and install linux overrighting the original lilo. or must i uninstall lilo 1st and then reinstall when i install linux???

If LILO is already installed, it would be best to overwrite it when installing Linux.
