Have you tried booting from the CD? Are you having problems? If so, tell us what they are and which distribution you're trying to install.
|
If you burned it correctly just pop it in the cdrom drive and reboot. Make sure your bios is set to boot from cdrom.

You haven't mentioned this ,but if you have a windows installed on the comp already, just make sure you get your partitions right.
A quick read up on partitioning would be useful. |
It's a good idea to get read a step-by-step guide before you start installing. You don't say your distro, but try googling for "installing Ubuntu" or whatever: a good guide will save you from getting into a "help! what do I do now?" situation.
By the way, did you know that you can do Linux-specific searches at www.google.com/linux ? |
Thanks for all the support , Maybe this will let anyone know where I am at... I have downloaded an iso ubobtu.data.something.iso and atempted to create a linix cd, but all i got was the same filename .iso 711mb on my cd . I used nero to burn the cd. what other commands to create the cd properly ?

My advice would be that before you install the Linux distro you should try a couple of Live cds try out a few different types of Linux because some of the Linux Distros out there will seem harder to use then others especally if you are coming from a windows operating system. There are a few different distrubutions of linux out there . and remember that once you installed Linux you could lose everything else on the hard drive this is if you are not sure of what you are doing. I am not saying that you cannot keep your other Operating system I am saying that it can get a little confusing when you are trying to install, this is why I suggest live cd's so you can try them and see which Linux Distro you like first.

For Nero:
Go to File--->Burn Image and navigate to the .iso file location. Nero will then take you to the CD writing dialog. |
