Understanding the lingo

Hello, I am new to linux and don't really understand the lingo. I am wondering one major thing. Is there a difference between the command line and a terminal window? If so how do you open a command line interface?

You open the terminal window to get to a shell prompt (the command line). Type in your command and press enter.

Yes, the command line exists within a terminal window. If you aren't using X (for example if you hit Ctrl+alt+F1), you will get a command line on a console. It works in the same way but without a GUI/terminal window.
