Understanding -l$(top_srcdir)/xLib/

In one of our projects in Kdevelop, I clicked the settings and saw this under text box titled Directories outside project :
Code:
-l$(top_srcdir)/xLib/
I want to understand how top_srcdir gets executed ? What are the other similar keywords ?
