undefined symbol: gdk_threads_lock

Hello.

I have the Suse.10 distribution. Some X applications refuse to run and state something like:

symbol lookup error: gimp: undefined symbol: gdk_threads_lock

the same was known for firefox and several others. Also other "undefined symbols" are encountered, but this one is the most annoying and frequently appearing. How I can handle this?

The present distribution was installed on top of the very old Suse 7.1 with the "upgrade" option, so it took many thing from the older distribution, such as accounts and other stuff. I am aware that the problem emerges from some incompatibilities in gtk libraries, but how to settle this being more specific?

S.Y.
