uncompressing linux ok, booting the kernel 'then nothing'

hi all,
ive been trying to install a program called stanton finalscratch which runs on a linux platform dedicated to itself and when i try to install on a seperate partition to my windows xp sp3, it gets as far as...
uncompressing linux ok, booting the kernel
then nothing happens.
i dont know that much about programming computers so any answers need to be put simply.
on the setup screen it says it is syslinux v1.66
thats as much as i know.
if any other info is needed i will do all i can to provide it.
please help a total novice.
cheers all

Nice to know that there is something _needs_ linux .
As far as the booting is concerned you can try to change the boot parameters (would be very visible) if you are using some newbie friendly distro like ubuntu. This is the part where we can check the software.
As far as hardware is concerened - check and see if the md5sum of the iso/cd matches. Try, if possible to use a different pc to see if the cd works. Another thing that can help is remove all the external hardware and try to install it. Please post the distro you are using so that we can help you better.
Hope this helps.

From the looks of it I think that the installation is done. You say that you have two operating systems on the computer.
Are you able to boot into winduhs?
The next I would advise is as soon as you see the grub (this screen would have the list of operating systems on the computer). Read the screen carefully and go into the linux line and post back what you see. Someone here would be able to help you.

ive not downloaded nothing. im trying to install the 2nd os from a disc as per instructions.
its called traktor finalscratch by stanton magnetics and it runs on a linux platform. (on the disc)
on my other pc it installs but then dont give option to boot finalscratch or windows when u start up pc, jus goes straight into windows. on this pc, the one im trying to install it on, it wont go past the uncompressiung linux ok, booting the kernel during installation on my 2nd active primary partition.

this pc only has windows xp sp3 on it. with my hard drive partitioned + formatted to fat32, ready to install my 2nd os. when it lets me that is.
its my other pc that it installs on but wont boot
but this pc wont even install it and this is the pc that im more interested in having it installed on. hp pavilion a1615.uk.
i tried windows vista ultimate on that partition + THat works, but syslinux 1.66 wont install to same partition, even after deleting vista + re formatting the partition back to fat32 (as finalscratch needs it to be)

Try either <Esc> or <Tab> (depends on the loader) after the POST messages - when the screen is blank.

Hi,
I did a bit of googling to see whether what you have is software to run on a linux system, or whether it has some sort of linux bundled in with it. I came away thoroughly confused.
In one place you say you have final scratch from Stanton Magnetics, in another you say it's Traktor Scratch.
Quote:
Traktor Scratch is produced by Native Instruments, who released it in May 2007. Their Traktor DJ Studio software line was previously the official software for Stanton Magnetics' Final Scratch hardware, but the companies severed their relationship in late 2005. Traktor Scratch is a direct competitor to Serato Scratch Live and Stanton Final Scratch.
(from Wikipedia)
There's also a Final Scratch available from Softpedia - but it seems to be Macsoftware.
Stanton Magnetics appears to have a forum - why don't you ask there?

Don't think I can help you.
Judging by this, you're not the only one who has a problem with this software.
Edit: Perhaps you could try this forum
