uncompress .zip with "tar -ixz Filename.zip" , can it be done ???

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to install Oracle 11g on my Suse linux. Its format is "filename.zip" . I tried many ways to uncompress that file but didn't seem to work out. So, I tried "tar -ixz filename.zip" . It seems to work as if it's processing and I can't do anything. So, I put that process into background but it never finishes processing in the background. When I type "jobs" in the console it says "[1] + Stopped tar -ixz oracle.zip". Since , the file is more than 1.8G, I think it'll take a lot of time but in my case, I waited for more than 5 hours but It's still uncompressing. Please help me out of this.

with regard

Firstly, why don't you just use unzip to unzip the file? I don't think that's the same as using gzip (which is what you're doing by using tar's z option). Secondly, I believe the reason tar is hanging is that you haven't used the f option to specify a file, so it's waiting for input from stdin.

Thank Nylex. I can just unzip the file with "unzip" utility. I overlooked it.
