Unable to remove LCD Weather Station Widget
 

Hi all,

I am running Kubuntu 14.04, using the "Add Widget" option I selected the LCD Weather Station Widget & placed it on the panel next to the clock, I noticed straight away that instead of a nice looking icon it turned to a grey square, never the less I configured it by entering my location, but when I click the icon it displays no information at all so I decided to remove it but when I right click the icon there is no "remove" option so I am now stuck with an ugly looking icon that does nothing.
If anyone can help I would be very grateful however being a newbie I'm not too confident with terminal commands so I will need clear step by step instructions.

In Windows if you screw up there's always the system restore option, is there anything similar in Linux?

The first thing to do is right-click on an empty space of the KDE desktop. You will see a menu. If the menu shows the item Unlock Widgets then click on that item and then you will be able to remove the Weather Station widget. If the desktop widgets are locked then you can't remove them unless you first unlock the widgets. And remember to lock the widgets again once you've removed the weather one. This prevents you from accidentally removing a widget you want to keep.

Thanks for the info jdkaye,I tried your suggestion but the widgets were already unlocked so that's not the answer. My feeling is that something went wrong at some stage as it isn't just a case of removing a widget but removing a widget that doesn't work. Any other suggestions appreciated.

I have found the answer in case it helps anyone else & it was so very simple. Right click & select delete panel then click icon on top right of desktop & select add panel (choose default) a brand new panel appears as it was originally which you can add icons to.
