Unable to Play MP3 on Fedora 8.

Hi,

I have installed the realplayer on Fedora 8 with the help of different
posts available on Internet. It looks like the audio driver in not being detected or there is conflict between the drivers which may be present, as the status on system shows that the sound is in Mute state.
When i start playing any MP3, realplayer hangs and have to forcefully quit it.

Can anybody help me in solving this issue.

Some things that you can check on your FC8 system. What sound card do you have? What driver is it using?

Post your results for the sound card.

Another thing to check is your mixer. This controls what volume levels you are using and also whether the mute is on. It could be a simple thing to unmute your speakers.

You could run a debugger with Realplayer if you know how to do that, to help to find out why it crashes. You could also see if there are any log messages. Look in /var/log and also look at

You may don't have the mpeg codec. Is it giving any error message like 'no suitable codec/plugin' ?

No,I am not able to play MP3 in any other application. But it is not giving any error message in realplayer. It say's it is playing the MP3 but just hangs in starting itself.

No, even the track slider is not moving. When i start playing the MP3, realplayer window comes up and when you put the cursor on that it says it is playing the MP3 but track slider is not moving.

Even i can't hear the system sound.

Have you made sure your sound card is detected and configured properly ?

Open sound manager and check your sound card is there and selected

Also use command ' dmesg ' and look for strings regarding your card (hope you know your card's name)
