Unable to ping Linux box
I've got a small network set up at home. This consists of a Win2k Server providing DHCP, a 2 Win98 boxes for daily use, and a Mepis linux box. These all connnect to a hub (not a switch or router) The linux box used to have WinNT on it and could communicate fine with everyone.
As I'm a newbie, I'm trying to learn as much as possible on that linux box. I've been downloading tarballs and burning them to CD to move to the linux box. I'm going thru a ton of CDs. So I figured I need to get Samba up and running. The problem I've run into is it appears that something network-wise is not configured properly.
I've done a ipconf /all on the linus and Win boxes and they see the correct IP and subnet. However, when I try to ping the linux box from any of the windows boxes, it times out. I can ping the win machines fine from linux.
Is it possible that there is a setting that needs turned on in order for Mepis to reply to a ping? Any suggestions are welcome.
