"unable to open display" please help


i am having a problem with xwindow.
when i gave "startx" in command line,i got error as
"/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common line 45:3206 segmentation fault xmodmap "$sysmod map" ".
also when i tried to run "xhost + ",i got eroor as
"unable to open display".please suggest a solution
thank you in advance

This guy has a very similar problem to you.
