Unable to mount location, Dbus error

my windows computer crashed and a friend suggested ubuntu to save my files, i d/l a live cd and tried to open my drive, I got this error

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I attempted to mount the drive manually using some online tutorials but it did not work. Please let me know how i can mount this drive and save some of my files. Windows will not get past the BSOD. Thanks!

tried clicking again and got this error:
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error
Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.

You can ignore the RAID/FakeRaid stuff... when you boot windows..does it get anywhere? no safe mode or anything?
SystemREscue CD might be a better choice...it's geared more towards "rescuing a system" than ubuntu's live cd...

I did some googling and came up with the same thing over and over...

Suggested course of action, boot from windows XP Install CD, at install utility go to RECOVERY CONSOLE, at the consoel run CHKDSK drive: /F

replace drive with letter fo drive you need to fie ie
chkdsk c: /f
